We, however, feel the most important thing to do now is to ensure that the girl has access to proper medical care and counselling. We decided to come with YWCA here, where she is now being kept by her aunt to discuss this issue and see if it is possible for us to move her to one of the shelters for children,” Nkonde said.

“We are happy that the people she is staying with now are ready to do anything to ensure that their niece is helped. We will be coming back to conclude what we have started today. The girl has gone through a lot and we pray that the perpetrators are brought to book”.

And YWCA Youth Coordinator Sabrina Amanzi said her organisation was ready to help the girl.
“As YWCA, we feel it is important that the girl receives counselling as soon as possible. We would like to have some counselling sessions with her from our children’s shelter because we know that change of environment will help her heal,” said Amanzi.

Meanwhile, Liberated Hearts Foundation Executive Director Musenge Musomali said her organisation was ready to do anything to help the girl.
And the victim’s uncle said his family was praying that the law takes its course.

“We have been talking to the girl and she is slowly opening up to us. Her 32-year-old cousin is not the only one who was sexually abusing her,” said the victim’s uncle.

The victim’s uncle also disclosed that they have just discovered that even her grandfather, the father to the same man, was the first person to abuse her.

“It is very sad. All we want is justice for this young girl. As you can see, the girl has gone through a lot,” said the victim’s uncle.

By Staff Reporter Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) yesterday visited the 8-year-old girl who was sexually abused by two members of her family.
