{"id":8797,"date":"2019-03-02T06:32:08","date_gmt":"2019-03-02T06:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=8797"},"modified":"2019-03-02T06:32:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-02T06:32:35","slug":"nullify-kangombes-election-sesheke-mp-pf-losing-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=8797","title":{"rendered":"Nullify Kang\u2019ombe\u2019s election Sesheke MP &#8211; PF losing candidate\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551455028150\">By Staff Reporter<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551455040290\">LOSING Patriotic Front candidate for Sesheke constituency Dean Masule has petitioned the Lusaka High Court to nullify the election of United Party for National Development&#8217;s Romeo Kangombe as area member of parliament due to the electoral malpractices which characterised the just-ended elections.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551455806203\">In a petition filed in court, Masule says the election of Kangombe was not free and fair because of violence and intimidation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456256854\">He said although Kangombe was declared member of parliament for Sesheke by the Electoral Commission of Zambia ( ECZ), he was not duly elected\u00a0 \u00a0because voters were prevented from voting for a candidate of their choice due to electoral malpractices.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456395906\">Masule stated that the levels of violence were so high such that they were even\u00a0 acknowledged in the Conflict Management meeting which was attended by Southern Africa Centre for Conflict of Resolution and Dispute\u00a0 (SACCORD ) and others .<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456409158\">He alleged that\u00a0 Kangombe\u00a0 as\u00a0 quoted by News Diggers Newspaper\u00a0 admitted that the election was not free and\u00a0 fair\u00a0 because of\u00a0 violence.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456492162\">Masule said because of the violence that marred the election, a number of PF members were injured and admitted to the hospital.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456534388\">He stated that the UPND cadres attacked PF camps on many occasions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456616398\">Masule\u00a0 cited an incident where a PF camp was attacked and its member\u00a0 was picked and beaten by the UPND members .<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456645596\">He alleged that there were threats issued\u00a0 on people including the district electoral officer who ran away from the area.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456691481\">Masule stated that the district election officer , Sesheke Town Clerk and the council secretary continued to be under guard until after elections.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_4934672423798150532yMail_cursorElementTracker_1551456761619\">He stated that because of what transpired in Sesheke, the electoral victory of Kangombe should be declared null and void and he should be granted costs and incidentals for the proceedings and any other relief the court might deem fit.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Reporter LOSING Patriotic Front candidate for Sesheke constituency Dean Masule has petitioned the Lusaka High Court to nullify the election of United Party for National Development&#8217;s Romeo Kangombe as area member of parliament due to the electoral malpractices which characterised the just-ended elections.
