NON-GOVERNMENTAL\u00a0gender\u00a0Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has called for sensitisation of young girls, particularly when they are approaching their teenage.<\/p>\n
Commenting on\u00a0the\u00a0Mansa\u00a016-year old mother who agreed to receive\u00a0K1,100 and an itel phone from a traditional healer in exchange for her one\u00a0month old baby, NGOCC chairperson Mary Mulenga\u00a0said\u00a0the act is unacceptable.<\/p>\n
“It’s\u00a0the most stupid thing\u00a0a human being\u00a0can\u00a0ever think of doing – to sell a child\u00a0that you have given birth to in exchange\u00a0of money and a phone that will be destroyed\u00a0in less than a month,\u201d said Mulenga.<\/p>\n
She pointed out that young girls were not always ready\u00a0to take full responsibility of their actions.<\/p>\n
“I think girls should not be indulging in sex,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Mulenga\u00a0said that if the mother was not ready to look after the\u00a0baby she should sought individuals or organisations to adopt it.<\/p>\n
“There a lot of care homes and private orphanages\u00a0where such babies can be taken to for care,” she explained.<\/p>\n
Mulenga\u00a0further said the mother of the child exhibited some selfishness and high levels of irresponsibility.<\/p>\n
