{"id":722,"date":"2017-11-10T11:56:18","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=722"},"modified":"2017-11-10T11:56:18","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T11:56:18","slug":"two-people-die-in-separate-accidents-in-eastern-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=722","title":{"rendered":"Two People die in separate accidents in Eastern Province"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Chipata district while a cyclist died on the spot in another accident in Mambwe district.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eastern Province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya said Daglous Himoonga of unknown age of Himoonga farm in Msekera area died yesterday after being hit by a Toyota Hilux,\u00a0 registration number GRZ 232 CM, which is Chadiza District Commissioner\u2019s official vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Chilufya said the driver of the vehicle, Samuel Phiri 31, failed to apply emergency brakes and hit Himoonga who was trying to cross the road around Madzimoyo area on his way from Chipata to Chadiza along the great east road.<br \/>\nChilufya said the driver and his passenger escaped with minor injuries but\u00a0Himoonga died on the spot after sustaining head injuries, a fractured\u00a0left leg and hand as well as\u00a0 internal injuries.<br \/>\nThe Police Commissioner said the body of the deceased is in Chipata\u00a0Central Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial while the\u00a0driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Chilufya said a cyclist John Chiwama of unknown age died\u00a0on Tuesday\u00a0after\u00a0being hit by an unknown vehicle at Kambani Village in Chief Mnkhanya\u2019s area.<br \/>\nChilufya said the driver didn\u2019t stop after the accident and that\u00a0the police have launched investigations in the matter.<br \/>\nHe said the body of the deceased is laying in Kamoto Mission Hospital\u00a0mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial.<br \/>\nThe police commissioner has warned drivers against disobeying traffic\u00a0rules, saying, most accidents are being caused by dangerous driving.<br \/>\nChilufya has also warned motorists who fail to assist accident\u00a0victims whenever an accident occurs saying it was a serious offence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Chipata district while a cyclist died on the spot in another accident in Mambwe district.
