{"id":2778,"date":"2018-03-15T05:10:23","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T05:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=2778"},"modified":"2018-03-15T05:10:53","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T05:10:53","slug":"extended-fish-ban-could-increase-cost-of-living-warns-jctr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=2778","title":{"rendered":"Extended fish ban could increase cost of living, warns JCTR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">By Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has warned that the fish extension by government is likely to have a negative effect on the cost of living.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a statement, social and economic development programme officer, Paul Chileshe said the fact that fisheries were limited should be reason enough for the country to diversify in agriculture in order to avoid dependence on the few fisheries.<br \/>\n\u201cJCTR feels that while the extension of the fish ban may reduce cholera incidences, it will halt fishing because the country has limited fisheries. The extension will also highly affect people who depend on fishing as a source of income to feed and educate their families and will reduce the supply of fish in the markets which will most likely trigger price increase and increase cost of living in the short run,\u201d said Chileshe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u201cThe most significant price increase was noted in kapenta which increased by K38 from K179 in January to K217 in February for 1Kg of kapenta due to its scarcity and high demand on the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Reporter The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has warned that the fish extension by government is likely to have a negative effect on the cost of living.
